After the
Dutch civil service was purged of Jews, an order issued on October
22 stipulated the registration of businesses owned or influenced by
Jews. Registration was the first step toward the “Aryanization”
of Jewish property. In all, 20,690 businesses were recorded. The
registration campaign proved that the Jews played a relatively small
role in the Dutch economy and that most of their businesses were
small.
