Between
February 22 and April 2, 1942, 34,073 Jews were deported from the
Lodz Ghetto to the Chelmno extermination camp, where they were
murdered by means of gas vans. These transports were part of a wave
of deportations from Lodz to Chelmno between January and May 1942.
By the end of these deportations, the Lodz Ghetto had been "productivized,"
turned into a camp where the only legal inhabitants were forced
laborers who manufactured for the Germans. |
