In the
first year of World War I, in the course of war between Turkey and
Russia in the Armenian provinces of Turkey, the Turks questioned the
Armenians’ loyalties and drove them out of their homes. At least 1
million Armenians, about half of the Armenian population in Turkey,
were murdered in the expulsion by the Turks.
