FAQS
In Their Own Words:
If Everything is Genocide..
Language has power. The words we choose to use carry weight, and are
meaningful. If we choose to label every event a Genocide or equate every
event with the Holocaust, then we detract from the real meaning of those
words and reduce their ability to represent true horror.

Avner Shalev, Chairman of the Yad Vashem Directorate
“For the first time since World War II, Jews are, again, threatened by a
genocide. We must remember: radical Islamic ideology is not just
propaganda designed to attain political goals; they believe in what they
say, and they fully intend to act on these beliefs, given the chance to
do so.”

Prof. Yehuda Bauer, Academic Advisor to Yad Vashem during a symposium
held at Yad Vashem entitled: Holocaust Denial: Paving the Way to
Genocide
“As a result of the enormous suffering inflicted upon the world by
the Nazi regime, and especially Europe, a number of European countries
have enacted laws criminalizing both the denial of the Holocaust and the
promotion of Nazi ideology. “

Prof. Michael J. Bazyler
von Oppenheim Research Fellow International Institute for Holocaust
Studies, Yad Vashem
Professor of Law, Whittier Law School, California, USA
The key lies in recognition and understanding the extent of the
threat, and acting with courage, conviction and unswerving determination
until that threat has been extinguished, once and for all.”

Holocaust denial is a form of antisemitism, and antisemitism in our
time still frequently incites to violence against individual Jews and
against Jews in general.”

Dr. Robert Rozett is Director of the Library
at Yad Vashem
“It is only natural that latter-day supporters of the Hitler regime
and enemies of democracy should deny the Holocaust. What is extremely
dangerous is the fact that those who support world terrorism, including
even a president of a member state of the UN, in effect threaten another
genocide of the Jews. You may say that it is just talk; but from past
experience we should have learnt that when people say they want to
commit mass murder, they really mean it.“

Beyond" keynote address at the United Nations on January 27, 2006.
