Picture here are the Teheran Children-a group of
Polish Jewish children who reached Palestine via Iran in February
1943. When World War II broke out in September, 1939, 300,000 Jews
fled Poland for the Soviet Union. In 1942, the Polish
Government-in-Exile, and the Soviet Authorities agreed to allow the
emigration of 24,000 of these refugees, including 1,000 Jewish
children (mostly orphans) and 800 Jewish adults. Initially, they
were taken to Teheran and from there 861 children and 369 adults
were brought to Israel on February 18, 1943.
