Recent UK visits to Yad Vashem

Dedicated advocates and supporters of Yad Vashem, Colin and Gail Halpern came for a two-day visit in May, which included a special presentation in Yad Vashem’s Archives, as well as attending the visit of Pope Benedict XVI. A group of British businessmen accompanied PM Gordon Brown on his recent visit to Israel. The group toured Yad Vashem and then joined the Prime Minister in a moving wreath laying ceremony in the Hall of Remembrance. The annual lecture of Yad Vashem’s John Najmann Chair of Holocaust Studies took place on 19 June at the Imperial War Museum in London. The Chair was established in memory of Isaac John Najmann who believed that every generation should know and remember, which was endowed by his wife Hertha Najmann (pictured) and children. This was the first time the lecture was held in London, and coincided with the 10th anniversary of the death of John Najmann

On 23 January the Yad Vashem UK Foundation launched their ‘Guardian of the Memory’ campaign in the House of Commons. In attendance were (L-R) Rabbi Barry Marcus, Jacques Weisser, David Metzler, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Hazel Blears, MP Andrew Dismore, Linda Patterson and Jeffrey Pinnick, Chairman of the Yad Vashem UK Foundation.

On April 19, 2007 Yad Vashem honored Steve and Philip Morelle with a dedication ceremony and unveiling of plaques at the Square of Hope and the Memorial Cave. The Morelle family are Supporters of the Holocaust History Museum.




In a very moving visit to Yad Vashem, Brian, Sam, Stella and Irit Anderson came to the Memorial Cave on Yom Hashoah to light candles next to the memorial plaque they dedicated in memory of their family members who perished in the Holocaust.
