Jacobo Obadia, father of Jose Obadia and David Obadia, representatives of the Malaga Jewish Community, visited Yad Vashem in February. Obadia’s visit was very emotional and he was especially moved by the Children’s Memorial. Pictured here together with Perla Hazan.

In April 2002, an event was held at the Cervantes Institute in Tel Aviv, on the topic, “Spain and Contemporary Jewry”. Prof Cesar Vidal, Member of the Yad Vashem Committee in Spain, spoke on diplomacy during the Holocaust; Max Mazin, Honorary President of the Yad Vashem Committee in Spain spoke about Righteous Among the Nations Angel Sanz Briz, ministerial counselor in the Spanish embassy in Budapest during the war; and Perla Hazan, Director of the Ibero-american Desk at Yad Vashem, spoke about Righteous Among the Nations Jose Santaella, the agricultural attaché in the Spanish embassy in Berlin during the war.

A preparatory meeting for the establishment of the Spanish Society for Yad Vashem took place at Madrid in January.
