Multiyear Holocaust teacher training program to be launched

By Arie Zuckerman

back

Yad Vashem is set to open a Europe-wide teacher training program on the Holocaust, with an emphasis on the dangers of renewed antisemitism in Europe.

The program, set to run for 10 years, will train a leading core of educators and public opinion makers in some 22 European countries, who will then coordinate and influence Holocaust education in their respective countries. At an advanced training stage, program graduates will train additional teachers and assist in setting up local education centers.

Yad Vashem is running the program on behalf of the International Commission on Holocaust Era Insurance Claims (ICHEIC), headed by former US Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger. Mr. Eagleburger and the ICHEIC members decided to establish the program in light of the great importance they attribute to education in Holocaust commemoration and combating antisemitism.
