The Moral and Ethical Implications for Humanity
International Conference
The International School for Holocaust Studies

Leading Holocaust educators and well-known Survivors gathered at Yad Vashem on and around Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom Hashoah) to examine “The Legacy of Holocaust Survivors,” April 8-11. The unique and historic conference in which they took part was organized and conducted by Yad Vashem’s International School for Holocaust Studies, in association with the Centre of Organizations of Holocaust Survivors in Israel and the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

Despite the security crisis in Israel over 300 participants from Israel and 27 countries across the world took part. The program included official Yom Hashoah ceremonies, a full program of group lectures, and scholarly presentations in smaller workshop forums. The conference concluded with a “Living Legacy” statement issued by the Survivors as well as a keynote address by Prof. Elie Wiesel.

The International Conference focused on the following topics:

    • The Survivors Look to the Future with Hope: Building New Worlds and Reaffirming Faith in Mankind

    • The Literature of Survivors: A Seminal Contribution To Humanity

    • Faith in God and Man after Auschwitz

    • Tikkun Olam: Combating Antisemitism, Denial, Racism and Genocide

    • The Moral and Ethical Implications of the Holocaust for Humanity
