Auschwitz: The Final Stop

Six million Jews, of whom one and a half million were children, perished in the Holocaust. As time passes and fewer witnesses remain, it is of great importance to create a personal link between the Jewish people today and those who perished under the Nazi genocidal regime.
Most of the children who were sent to Auschwitz were killed upon arrival. Only a very few survived. This ceremony focuses on the stories of three children. The use of their diaries and memoirs gives us a glimpse into their lives and personalities before the Holocaust, during the Holocaust and up to their deportation to Auschwitz or to their liberation. The readings form a personal connection and bond with these children and their lives without which they would remain only as names.

This ceremony is designed for pupils in grades 9-12 (ages 15-18).

Structure of the ceremony:
• Opening pages 2-3.
• Jewish Life Before the Holocaust pages 3-6.
Experiences of the Children During the Holocaust pages 7-10.
• Deportation to Auschwitz pages 11-13.
