Children in the
Holocaust
This ceremony is
designed for pupils in
grades 9-12 (ages
15-18).
The teacher may use this lesson plan as an addition to the ceremony, either as a preparation to the ceremony or as a summation of the ceremony. The lesson plan may also be used as an alternative to the ceremony and as an extra history lesson teaching the subject of World War Two.
A million and a half Jewish children were murdered by the Nazis.
How did the Jewish children grow up under Nazi rule?
How could a child grow up when people related to him as a dangerous enemy?
Did these children have a "childhood"?
Proposal for 2-3 lessons.
Our recommendation is to approach each subject in the following order:
1.
About the meaning of
childhood
2. About adult-child
relations – natural and
self-evident?
3.
The Jewish child in the
Nazi ideology
4.
The Jewish child during
the Holocaust: Extracts
of testimonies in the
light of the UN
Declaration of 5.
Children’s Rights
5. Conclusion
