About the Ceremony
Auschwitz the concentration camp and mainly the extermination sight of European Jewry has become known throughout the world as a symbol of Nazi genocide, and particularly of the Holocaust of the Jews. Over one million Jews were murdered in Auschwitz- many of the victims were children. Children were generally killed almost immediately upon arrival at the camp. In the view of the Nazis, they didn't "deserve to live."
In "Auschwitz - The Final Stop", we have chosen to focus on the lives of children before the war, and in the period leading to their deportation to the camp: ordinary children with dreams and hopes, children who were forced to grow up quickly when the war broke out. Some of them survived, but most perished at the hands of the Nazis and their accomplices. In this ceremony, we have brought excerpts from the diaries of Jewish children - through their words we can catch a glimpse into a world of innocence before the war, and of pain and suffering once the war began.
Structure of the ceremony:
I Opening: The meaning of Auschwitz
Lighting the candles while reading aloud the names of children who were murdered during the Holocaust.
II Jewish life before the Holocaust: The Jews who were murdered during the Holocaust were not just numbers; they had lives that contained love, pain, disappointment and success, just like any human being.
III Experiences of the children during the Holocaust: Although the children came from different places in Europe, they shared similar fears and hardships. In this section, beyond the sources that deal with the children's lives we encountered at the beginning of the text, there are also the descriptions of other children who went through similar experiences.
