Internet Department
The Internet Department handles four main tasks in the International School for Holocaust Studies:
-
Management of the International School for Holocaust Studies website.
- Development and uploading of educational material for the website.
- Managing international videoconferences.
- Providing Internet services for other departments within the School.
1. Management of the International School for Holocaust Studies Website
The Internet Department handles management of the website, including its design and content. We upload materials developed exclusively by us, and also content from other departments. We also publicize online the ongoing activities at the School: events, seminars and courses, new educational materials, etc. In addition, the Internet Department manages videoconferencing services, online courses and local and international forums.
2. Development and Uploading of Educational Material for the Website
The Internet Department consists of content personnel and programming personnel. We develop and upload educational content as a regular part of our work. This material includes:
e-Newsletter for Holocaust Educators
We prepare four issues a year, in Hebrew and in English. The newsletter will appear in additional languages in the future. Each issue focuses on a central theme, usually relating to Holocaust education. The e-newsletters have several regular sections, including a main article, a lesson plan on the same theme, book reviews, and “what’s new” sections on recent and upcoming activities at the International School for Holocaust Studies and at Yad Vashem.
At present, over 1,000 educators and members of the public receive this e-Newsletter.

Suggested Ceremonies and Educational Activities for Various Ages
This sub-site is updated three times a year: for the Tenth of Tevet (the general Memorial Day), January 27th (the date of the liberation of Auschwitz and the European Holocaust Memorial Day), and on the Israeli Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Day.
We view these ceremonies as the culmination of an educational process, and so we generally have the ceremonies online some two months before their intended date. It is for this reason that the site also includes suggested classroom activities and an option to contact us for consultation.
The site contains suggested ceremonies which include readings from varied sources: testimonies, literature, poetry, prayers, diaries, final letters, memoirs and more; lists of names of victims for reading during the ceremony, photographs, historical background and biographies on the victims and survivors appearing in the text, and design suggestions.
Suggested educational activities are an integral part of the site. They accompany a ceremony which, in turn, usually relates to the central yearly theme as selected by Yad Vashem. These activities give teachers of various age groups – elementary through high school – educational methods of touching on a given theme.
The site is currently in English and Hebrew. Additional languages will be available in the future.

Lesson Plans
The site offers a variety of lesson plans in several languages, aimed at different age groups. This is done in accordance with the pedagogical philosophy of the International School for Holocaust Studies, which states that Holocaust-related subject matter should be suited to the student’s emotional and cognitive ability.

Online Courses
The Internet Department is responsible for uploading and managing online courses on our website.
Online Forums
The Internet Department manages and moderates forums in several languages. Through these forums, we provide educators and all those interested, a platform for discussion of Holocaust-related topics. The forums are an excellent tool to “open” the International School to those who cannot reach Yad Vashem, or are interested in getting widespread feedback from similarly-interested educators.
In addition, we operate closed forums for graduates of seminars and teacher-training courses, who are interested in keeping in touch with Yad Vashem and other graduates.

Educational Material Developed in the School
The website contains a variety of educational material, in several languages, developed at the International School for Holocaust Studies.
3. Managing International Videoconferences
The International School for Holocaust Studies conducts videoconferences with educational bodies throughout the world. Videoconferencing is seen as part of an array of educational tools employed by the School. We have facilitated various types of encounters through videoconferencing, including meetings between students, meetings of teachers or students with survivors, seminar graduates with School staff and more. These videoconferences have proven to be emotionally and educationally powerful experiences.

4. Providing Internet Services for the Other Departments in the School
The Internet Department is responsible for all content uploaded to the site. In this capacity we handle continuous updates of the site on the departments and events at the School, uploading content from the other departments, orders for various services, purchases of educational material from the online store, videoconferencing services for the departments, closed forums for graduates of seminars and more.
