The Study Seminars Department
Students from overseas
The Study Seminars Department believes that the visit to Yad Vashem for overseas students, whether Jewish or non Jewish, is important for any student visiting Jerusalem.
At Yad Vashem, the visitor encounters a significant chapter of Jewish history, as well as an integral chapter in the history of humanity. The Holocaust is an important part of our modern Jewish identity.
The visit to Yad Vashem imparts historical knowledge while raising moral and ethical questions. One of the places the visit focuses on is the Avenue of the Righteous Amongst the Nations. There we discuss the world of the individual and the personal dilemmas that he encountered. The issue of mutual responsibility, as depicted in both the Jewish and Christian traditions, is also highlighted.
The visit will be accompanied by a discussion on the significance of the Holocaust for the individual and collective memory of the participants in the group, and comparisons to the experience of memory in Israeli society, as presented at Yad Vashem. In addition, we arrange a visit with a Holocaust survivor, giving the students the unforgettable experience of meeting a Holocaust witness. We end the day with a ceremony in Remembrance Hall (Ohel Yizkor), where we read the names of victims who perished in the Holocaust.
Most of the Study Seminars workshops are adjusted to meet the specific needs of overseas students. In addition, new workshops have been developed that are appropriate for the students:
"From Classic Antisemitism to Modern Antisemitism to Holocaust Denial"
"How was it Humanly Possible?" - This workshop utilizes Holocaust literature to examine the character traits of the murderers.
"Mutual Responsibility of Jewish People for One Another"
"Remembrance - the Significance of the Holocaust - Personal Impact and Collective Memory"
"The Uniqueness of the Holocaust vs. Genocide as a Global Concept"
A long seminar, which includes workshops, is available according to the group's request.
Languages available: Hebrew, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Polish, German, French, Italian, and Hungarian.
The topics for the Study Days will be decided together with the leader of the group, and with a representative from the Study Seminars Department in the International School for Holocaust Studies.
