A Meeting of Worlds - the Holocaust and
Us
This exhibition was developed as a result of a successful cooperation
between the international school for holocaust studies at yad vashem and the
department of graphic design at the Shenkar College of engineering and design in
ramat gan, Israel.
This exhibition highlights the collection of selected posters designed in
recent years by shenkar students.
The holocaust has become an integral part of contemporary Israeli society
and Jewish identity. The shaping of holocaust memory; influenced by social;
artistic and historical processes in our time; is currently in flux. This
shaping of holocaust memory; influenced by social; artistic and historical
processes in our time; is currently in flux. This exhibition reflects this
process; highlighting how students of graphic design express their perspectives
and perceptions of the holocaust. In essence; these posters encourage a dialogue
about current trends in holocaust remembrance in Israeli society. A group of shenkar students in a poster design
course dealt with elements of historical content and creative design over
aperiod of several months. By the end of the course, each student had designed
a series of posters expressing a personal view of the Holocaust. The posters are
displayed for an entire year at the International School for Holocaust Studies
at Yad Vashem and viewed by visitors entering the building. Overall, the posters
serve as a trigger to begin a meaningful dialogue and educational experience
with all those who study at the School, including school children, university
students, teachers and educational policy makers. As a result of repeated
requests for these posters, the International School for Holocaust Studies at
Yad Vashem is pleased to now make them available as part of a mobile educational
unit that will travel throughout the country.

The Legend of the Lodz Ghetto Children
The hardships of ghetto life through the eyes of Jewish children. This fascinating legend, with its beautiful illustrations, was written in the Lodz
Ghetto in Poland during the war. In the guise of a playful fantasy, it vividly describes life in the ghetto where children labored in factories and
workshops in the hope of escaping deportation to the extermination camps. Ultimately, the entire ghetto was liquidated, but the legend remains
to tell a story of hope amid terror and tragedy.
The unit contains:
17 color posters with illustrations from the album
A teacher’s manual, with historical background, the legend, testimonies by ghetto survivors, articles and suggestions for class activities
