Pictured here is “Kibbutz Arlorzorov” in a displaced persons camp during Purim In Marina di Leuca, Italy.  Jewish DP’s prepared for the move to agricultural settlements in Palestine by setting up kibbutzim in many of the camps. Kibbutzim were often the centers of cultural life in the camps. The kibbutzim became the main instrument of preparing the youth for immigration to Palestine. In early 1947, more than 16,000 members lived in 276 kibbutzim throughout Europe.
