Hashomer Hazair

The first Jewish youth movement in Poland, established in 1916. A Socialist Zionist youth movement, similar to those operating at the end of the 19^th and beginning of the 20^th century, which adopted the characteristics of the scouts and an autonomous youth culture not directed by adults.

From the 1930s, the movement adopted a Marxist-leftist outlook, and stood for the principal of equality. It also compelled its members towards self-realization by emigrating to Eretz Yisrael and living in a communal framework, completely negating the continuation of Jewish existence in the Diaspora and revolting against Jewish tradition.

Hashomer Hazair continues to operate in Israel today.
