The Zukunft
Socialist and anti-Zionist Jewish youth
movement, active in the framework of the “Bund” party – the Jewish
workers’ party in Poland, established in 1897.
The movement’s members believed that the
answer to the “Jewish Question” was not aliya to Eretz Yisrael
but a socialist revolution in Poland itself. They stood for the
principal of equality and class solidarity, but also preserving the
local Jewish culture – Yiddish. The Zukunft developed the Yiddish
culture through newspapers, choirs, reading evenings and theater. They
also developed the “body culture” of the young Jews, and organized
self-defense militias in certain areas. |
