The kindergarten children in the DP camp, celebrating Hanukka – Deggendorf, Niederbayern, Germany

Setting up educational frameworks within the DP camps presented many difficulties. The kindergarten teachers and other educators had to surmount emotional, psychological and language barriers. Furthermore, there were huge differences in age amongst the children. However, the little children, most of them orphans who had never been in any kind of educational framework, were eager to learn, and in great need of a supportive educational environment.
