Pictured here are girls from the home at Saint-Mande who were sent on Transport 77 from France to Auschwitz on July 31,1944. The number of deportees on this transport was 1,300 and it consisted of more than 300 children and young people under 18. Upon reaching Auschwitz, 800 of them were gassed, including all the children. According to the account of a young girl who escaped arrest, the director of the home, who was blind, and the supervisor, Mlle Cahen, were also taken. The girl who escaped was Annette Tobjasz in the black apron (front row, third from the left). She was six years old at the time.
