Yad Vashem and the Holocaust Survivors’ Memoirs Project, with
assistance from the World Federation of Bergen-Belsen Associations,
have embarked on a mission to publish Holocaust survivor memoirs in
English. With a grant from Random House, this joint project hopes to
publish several memoirs annually over the next few years. In
addition to the first five books in this series – Enzo Tayar’s
Days of Rain, and Alan Elsner’s Guarded by Angels,
Stolen Youth (Memoirs of Isabelle Choko, Frances Irwin, Lotti
Kahana-Aufleger, Margit Raab Kalina and Jane Lipski), Hadassah
Rosensaft’s, Yesterday: My Story and Gabriel Mermall and
Norbert J. Yasharoff’s, By the Grace of Starngers – nine
memoirs are in production and scheduled for publication during
2006-2007. Our goal is to collect, preserve, and make available to
interested readers the autobiographical accounts of survivors of the
Holocaust, so that their memories can be transmitted to future
generations. |
