The Velniaduobe Woods

On August 15-16, 1941, the Jewish men from Rokiskis were taken away from the local ghetto, located on the estate of Count Psreredecki. They were brought to a forest known as the Velniaduobe Woods, five kilometers from Rokiskis near the village of Bajorai, and shot in seven three-meter-deep pits some 400 meters from the right side of the road leading to Juodupe. Lithuanian auxiliary police, along with local nationalists under the command of Karl Jaeger, head of Einsatzkommando 3a, carried out the murder.
According to Jaeger’s report, 3,207 Jews from Rokiskis County were murdered there.
