1. What is Yad Vashem?

Yad Vashem is a vast complex of museums, unique outdoor monuments, exhibition halls along with a major archives, library and other resource centers extending over 45 acres. Information about the various sites at Yad Vashem can be found here.

2. Where is Yad Vashem located?

Yad Vashem is located in Jerusalem on the Har Hazikaron below Mt. Herzl and the Military Cemetery.

3. How do I get to Yad Vashem?

Yad Vashem is accessible by car, taxi, chartered bus and public transportation. Parking is available in the Yad Vashem complex.

The following bus lines reach the Mt. Herzl bus stop: 13,16,17,17a,18,20,21,23,24,26,27,39,99,33

Most of the bus lines listed can be accessed from the Central Bus Station in Jerusalem, as well as from many locations around the city.

A free shuttle continuously runs between Mt. Herzl and Yad Vashem during the opening hours of Yad Vashem. The shuttle, operated by the “Egged” public transport company, makes eight stops along its route on the Yad Vashem campus.

4. Does Yad Vashem provide internal transportation between the various monuments, museums and other facilities?

Yad Vashem provides a free shuttle service that makes eight stops along its route throughout the campus. In addition, most sites are accessible by car. Pedestrian walkways are located throughout the site.  

5. What parts of Yad Vashem are indoors and what parts are outdoors?

Yad Vashem’s museums, Hall of Remembrance, Children’s Memorial and research facilities are located indoors. The outdoor monuments, including the Valley of the Communities, The Garden of the Righteous Among the Nations and numerous sculptures are surrounded by grassy areas and trees. Special areas designated for group discussions and reflection are located at different points throughout the grounds.

6. Is there a fee to visit Yad Vashem?

All parts of Yad Vashem are free and open to the public.  Guided tours of the site (which must be pre-arranged) are subject to a fee.

7. What are the visiting hours?

The Holocaust History Museum is open Sunday to Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Entrance is permitted only until 4:00 p.m.) The Holocaust History Museum is open on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Entrance will be permitted until 7:00 p.m.). Friday and Eve of Holidays 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Entrance is permitted only until 1:00 p.m.)

The Hall of Names in the Museum: The Hall of Names is open Sunday to Wednesday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Entrance is permitted only until 4:00 p.m.) The Hall of Names is open on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Entrance will be permitted until 7:00 p.m.). The Yad  Vashem Archives: Sunday-Thursday 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.( Books and files must be ordered by 3:00 p.m.)

8. What Visitors’ Services are available on the premises?

Information centers are located in the Visitors' Center, in the Library/Archives building, and in the Valley of the Communities

9. Are the research facilities open to the public?

11. Can I bring children to Yad Vashem? From what age?

Although Yad Vashem is open to the public, children under 10  will not be permitted to enter the museum.. A group that includes children, may find the Children’s Memorial, The Garden of the Righteous and the Valley of the Communities appropriate.

12. What options are available for disabled visitors to Yad Vashem?

A. Wheelchairs are available from the cloakroom on the bottom floor of the visitors' center of Yad Vashem.

B. The following sites at Yad Vashem are accessible by wheelchair: the New Museum and the Art Museum, the Hall of Names, The Hall of Remembrance, many outdoor monuments, and the Archives and Library. The Valley of the Communities is not accessible to visitors in wheelchairs.

Questions pertaining to reserving group visits:

1. Is an entrance pass necessary for the new Museum?

Only organized groups, coordinating their visit through an escort, need to ensure prior reservation of their visit, and require an entrance pass to the site. The pass is free of charge. Educational groups are required to book a guided tour for which there is a fee.

2. How do I order a group entrance pass?

A group wishing to reserve a visit to the new Museum must complete a group reservations form and send it to the Reservations Center at Yad Vashem. . A Group Confirmation can then be used as a group entrance pass after being sent to the group approximately one week after the reservation has been processed. For more details, please see Groups.

3. How long before entering the new Museum does an organized group with a reserved visit need to arrive at the site?

We recommend you arrive at the site approximately half an hour before the scheduled entrance to the new Museum. During this time , you will be able to obtain all the services which the group may require, view the Avenue of the Righteous Among the Nations, and receive a brief explanation before entering the Museum.
